Percussive Suggestion Technique
Created by Tim Phizackerley, PSTEC is a therapy that combines various psychological principles, including pattern interrupts, conditioned responses, and hypnotic suggestions.
PSTEC uses a combination of sound, physical movement, and suggestion to address emotional issues. It is designed to eliminate negative emotions and thought patterns by disrupting them.
Used as an alternative to traditional therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy, EFT, NLP, and hypnotherapy, it can be effective for treating issues such as anxiety, stress, phobias, and more.
PSTEC combines sound, movement, and suggestion to address emotional issues. Here's a step-by-step guide you can follow:
Step-by-Step Guide for Percussive Suggestion Meditation
1. Preparation
- Find a quiet, comfortable space where you won't be disturbed.
- Sit or lie down in a relaxed position.
2. Breathing and Relaxation
- Begin with deep breathing exercises to relax your body and mind.
- Focus on slow, deep breaths: inhale for four seconds, hold for two seconds, exhale for four seconds, and pause for two seconds before the next breath.
3. Introduction of Sound
- Use a PSTEC audio track if available. These tracks typically include rhythmic tapping sounds designed to interrupt negative thought patterns.
- Listen attentively to the sounds, allowing them to guide your focus.
4. Guided Suggestions
- As you listen to the audio, introduce positive affirmations or suggestions that align with your goals (e.g., "I am calm and in control").
- Repeat these affirmations silently or aloud, syncing them with the rhythm of the audio.
5. Physical Movement
- Incorporate gentle tapping on your body (e.g., tapping on your thighs or arms) in time with the audio's rhythm.
- This physical engagement helps reinforce the suggestions and maintain focus.
6. Reflection and Integration
- After the session, take a few moments to reflect on any changes in your emotional state or mindset.
- Consider writing down any insights or feelings that emerged during the meditation.
7. Completion
- Slowly bring your awareness back to the present moment.
- Open your eyes if they were closed and take a few deep breaths before concluding the session.
For a more detailed experience, consider seeking out official PSTEC resources or guided sessions that provide specific audio tracks and instructions tailored to this technique.
2024 Update from April: PSTEC got bought out by Orpheus mind technologies - so an improved version of the original track I spoke about is now available for subscription via app.orpheusmindtechnologies.com. The original creator of those tools has broken off and created a new set of tracks that are a bit shorter and less emotionally taxing to use - a free version is available at 7minuteself.help.
